Thankful for Crescent Rolls

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones and good food.

Thanksgiving has always been a weird holiday for me. Especially since the past few years I've become increasingly aware of how things I have grown used to mean different things to different people; the fact that many Native American people treat Thanksgiving as a day of mourning is certainly something to make me stop and think. My feelings for the holiday are conflicted. I know that I am lucky and that great tragedy and pain has led to me being able to have the life I have today. It's not that I feel less thankful, it's that I feel the weight of the path that led us here more. If anything it makes me feel like I appreciate what I have more. It's a hard subject to think about.

I looked all over the place trying to find a simple trench coat. Who would have thought I'd find one for just $10 at a thrift mall? This gorgeous vintage London Fog trench probably dates somewhere in the 80's. There was another one in the same booth that I may snag if it's still there when I go back. The one I'm wearing came with a removable insert, which I took out for the day.

Baked Buffalo Chicken and Shells with Cheddar and Gouda

I think we all get into a rut a lot when it comes to cooking. We find two or three dishes that are super easy and fast and cook them often (I can't even tell you how many times this week I've made myself homemade General Tso's Chicken with rice). Sure, we can add variety by mixing up vegetables and such, but the core recipes are still the same.

I have been planning a lot this month to start actively trying to create and eat different foods. I want to find joy in flavors again rather than just eating because I know I need to eat something. That's a huge problem with having depression and anxiety; sometimes if I have nothing to remind me, I will forget to eat all day until all of a sudden my hunger hits all at once. It sucks.

This is the first of many recipes I hope to share here. It's super simple, and I was honestly just trying to throw something different together to satisfy my PMS craving for hot wings. It worked pretty well, and I got the added bonus of cheese as well. My husband even approved enthusiastically, and he's usually confused by my pms craving induced meals!

I hope you all enjoy!

Recipe after the jump.

Nerdy/Geeky Fall/Winter Fashion

Hey everyone! I’m happy to present a new guest post on the blog today! E. L. blogs over at E. L. Lane Writer, and I’m glad to share her nerdy-style take on cold weather fashions. A girl after my own heart! Enjoy!

The weather is cooling down a bit in Miami, and this is when Floridians dust off their furry boots and leather jackets. I took advantage of the cooler weather we had a couple of weeks ago to put together my new favorite nerdy/ geeky fall/winter outfits.

I call the first one...

The Thing About Anxiety

Hey everyone! Today we have a guest post written by Heidi Scheuermann of Wandering Thespian. As someone who lives with anxiety, I find this to be very insightful and well thought out. Please enjoy!

I’ve lived a pretty great life so far. I had the good fortune of growing up with parents who are still together – a rarity these days. I have a brother and sister who I actually get along with. I’ve traveled quite a bit more than most people I know. I have an amazingly wonderful and supportive group of friends. Since I’ve been able to drive, I’ve always had a car to get myself around in. I attended private school, and then went on to get both an undergraduate and graduate degree. I never really struggled to learn, and I’ve always been able to keep a job. I have it good. Heck, I have it GREAT. But the thing is, I have anxiety.

I'm still getting used to this whole "style-blogger-taking-random-outfit-photos" thing. It's part of the reason most of my outfit posts so far have been against the brick wall on the back of my house (surprise!) I've been trying to get better lately, keeping my tripod in the car and packing my camera every time we go out. Finding locations is hard, though, especially in the city. I look totally stiff and uncomfortable in these, but that's because even though we were way off the busty road, cars still slowed down as they passed by as if they'd never seen a girl running back and forth from her camera every 10 seconds. I have my "easy" excuse prepared, you know the one that's true just not the whole truth. (Telling someone that I'm a photography student who is practicing self portraiture is a lot easier for most to digest than "Hey, I'm a blogger and I take photos of myself wearing clothes!”)

Uptown Chili Thai

Joe and I have lived in Columbus for almost 2 years now and we’ve noticed that we get into a rut with restaurants. There are so many restaurants here but we almost always end up visiting the same places. I suppose it has something to do with comfort zones and, in part, laziness. We have recently been trying to branch out for lunches on our out-of-house excursions, and happened across this restaurant called Uptown Chili Thai, which was just one street over from he main shopping strip in the Uptown area. I’d heard about it before but never thought much about trying it because it wasn’t ever in our direct line of sight when we were in the area.

We’re here, we’re ambitious, we’re all mixing prints!

So far we've styled Floral Sundresses and Ankle Boots for you all. The vote this month was divided but we landed on the challenge of mixing prints. It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a while but this finally gives me an excuse to experiment and do something different.

#DormLifeVoxBox from Influenster

It’s time for another awesome VoxBox review courtesy of Influenster! This time I’ve gotten a box geared towards college students called the #DormLifeVoxBox (ironic since I’ve never lived in a dorm!)

We’ve returned to hot weather here in Georgia, despite the blissful chilly snap we had for the past couple of days. I’ve already begun my Fall Transformation, though, and since it’s nearing Halloween I wanted to wear something a little “darker” than I’d usually choose. Even so, I just had to go with an iced coffee (because it’s hot and I’m weak.)

The One My Soul Loves

Photos all taken by the amazing Brittany at Brittany Martorella Photography

Love is full of clichés, and there's nothing wrong with that. He really does know me better than I know myself. He is my light, my best friend, my home. He gives me butterflies and drives me absolutely insane, sometimes at the same time.

I could prattle on forever with quotes from literature or movies about love and how profound it is. I could compare our love to that of the greats, the idols of romantic relationships, but none of that really seems accurate.

What I Wore: Sweater Weather

When the Georgia heat lets up its relentless reign over the south for a day or two, you rejoice and take advantage of it. The high yesterday was a cool 75 degrees, and that wasn't until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. That left most all day in the 50's and 60's. I gladly dredged a sweater out of the depths of my closet and leaped outside into the crisp air. (Can you tell I love fall?)

Six Blogger Style // How to Wear Ankle Boots

Welcome to Round 2 of Six Blogger Style!
giftofgabbyblog_sixbloggerstyle_September2017_Ankle-Boots-Collage

Last month, these 5 ladies and myself shared how we wear floral sundresses. Fall is arguably my favorite season, closely followed by Winter. I've been so ready to rid my life of the heat of summer and break into the warm and cozy fashion of fall, but alas living in Georgia, it's still just not cold enough for sweaters yet (boo!) However, I think all of us were ready to bring just a smidge of fall into our lives this month, so we all voted to style ankle boots for September!
