Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Bacon and Honey Goat Cheese

Everyone has been saying around here that it's "finally starting to feel like fall". Which has to be a joke, because it has seriously been in the high 80's all week and barely dropping to the low 70's at night. Still, part of me can't blame the wishful thinking, I am desperately ready for fall weather, clothes, and food. I've even been sneaking in little pumpkin treats once in a while to get myself mentally ready.

Something I used to not like at all was butternut squash, but I think it's just the way I had prepared it before. It's one of those foods that kind of needs other foods and flavors with it. I don't like just a mash of butternut squash alone. I decided to experiment with making a butternut squash soup by pan-roasting the chunks of squash and other veggies in bacon drippings before pureeing in the blender with stock. It came out so good! And butternut squash is just so good for you and a perfect vegetable to transition from summer to fall cooking with.

This is a very sweet, thick soup; sometimes I'm in the mood for it, but if you want to spice things up, you can add a little red pepper flakes for a slight kick!

Odin's Fur Baby Story

Meet Odin!

He's our big ol' wrinkle, a Shar Pei mix (we think with a lab/pittie) and the absolute sweetest dog I've ever seen in my life.

Exploring Pine Mountain, GA

Saturday, we took a trip with some friends about half an hour outside of Columbus to a small town called Pine Mountain. It's an antiquer's dream! The downtown area we were in wasn't very big, but more than half of the storefronts were antique or vintage shops. There were lots of beautiful murals in the area, but I didn't get any pictures of them except for the one above.

Does Defining Art Make Any Difference?

This post is an updated and expanded form of an essay that I wrote in my college Aesthetics class! I am excited to share some expanded and edited versions of my essays here (since I did spend plenty of time working on them, and I'd hate for them to rot away in my hard drive forever!)

In the history of art, especially more recent history, the question has been raised countless times on what the true definition of art is. Some philosophers believe that anything and everything can be art, while others have more strict guidelines upon which they base their judgment. Many of these more strict interpretations on which art is defined leave out large groups of creations, such as animal art or even readymades such as Duchamp's Fountain. Is it really that important to come up with a universal definition for what we refer to as “art?” Does it matter whether or not there is a universal definition?

Making Changes

Hello everyone! My name is Gabby. I’ve been blogging for about a year now. I was on WordPress but recent changes have made me realize that a platform like Blogger may be more my speed and style as a hobby blogger.
I will be starting by transferring all of my posts as new posts here on Blogger and then uploading all new content here. I hope to have a lot of fun sharing my personal style and thoughts here!
Everything up to this point has been migrated and post-dated... some of my old posts have been lost in the process though I am not at all sure why. But here's to new content to come!

Xoxo,
Gabby
