My Word for 2019

I have to tell you something, one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing people make their New Years Resolutions. It's not because I have a problem with people wanting to better themselves; that I actually love. The problem is that a lot of the time there's nothing to back these resolutions up, so something like 80% of resolutions are already abandoned by February.

I've found a combination of goal-setting strategies that works for me, and this year I've decided to implement a new layer to help me stay big-picture focused: I have chosen a word to define 2019 for myself. As you can see, I have chosen the word "Mindful," and thus I will be more mindful in everything I do this year.

Read more about how I chose my word and what it means to me after the jump!

Odin's Fur Baby Story

Meet Odin!

He's our big ol' wrinkle, a Shar Pei mix (we think with a lab/pittie) and the absolute sweetest dog I've ever seen in my life.

Exploring Pine Mountain, GA

Saturday, we took a trip with some friends about half an hour outside of Columbus to a small town called Pine Mountain. It's an antiquer's dream! The downtown area we were in wasn't very big, but more than half of the storefronts were antique or vintage shops. There were lots of beautiful murals in the area, but I didn't get any pictures of them except for the one above.

Making Changes

Hello everyone! My name is Gabby. I’ve been blogging for about a year now. I was on WordPress but recent changes have made me realize that a platform like Blogger may be more my speed and style as a hobby blogger.
I will be starting by transferring all of my posts as new posts here on Blogger and then uploading all new content here. I hope to have a lot of fun sharing my personal style and thoughts here!
Everything up to this point has been migrated and post-dated... some of my old posts have been lost in the process though I am not at all sure why. But here's to new content to come!

Xoxo,
Gabby

Thankful for Crescent Rolls

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones and good food.

Thanksgiving has always been a weird holiday for me. Especially since the past few years I've become increasingly aware of how things I have grown used to mean different things to different people; the fact that many Native American people treat Thanksgiving as a day of mourning is certainly something to make me stop and think. My feelings for the holiday are conflicted. I know that I am lucky and that great tragedy and pain has led to me being able to have the life I have today. It's not that I feel less thankful, it's that I feel the weight of the path that led us here more. If anything it makes me feel like I appreciate what I have more. It's a hard subject to think about.

I looked all over the place trying to find a simple trench coat. Who would have thought I'd find one for just $10 at a thrift mall? This gorgeous vintage London Fog trench probably dates somewhere in the 80's. There was another one in the same booth that I may snag if it's still there when I go back. The one I'm wearing came with a removable insert, which I took out for the day.

I'm still getting used to this whole "style-blogger-taking-random-outfit-photos" thing. It's part of the reason most of my outfit posts so far have been against the brick wall on the back of my house (surprise!) I've been trying to get better lately, keeping my tripod in the car and packing my camera every time we go out. Finding locations is hard, though, especially in the city. I look totally stiff and uncomfortable in these, but that's because even though we were way off the busty road, cars still slowed down as they passed by as if they'd never seen a girl running back and forth from her camera every 10 seconds. I have my "easy" excuse prepared, you know the one that's true just not the whole truth. (Telling someone that I'm a photography student who is practicing self portraiture is a lot easier for most to digest than "Hey, I'm a blogger and I take photos of myself wearing clothes!”)

Uptown Chili Thai

Joe and I have lived in Columbus for almost 2 years now and we’ve noticed that we get into a rut with restaurants. There are so many restaurants here but we almost always end up visiting the same places. I suppose it has something to do with comfort zones and, in part, laziness. We have recently been trying to branch out for lunches on our out-of-house excursions, and happened across this restaurant called Uptown Chili Thai, which was just one street over from he main shopping strip in the Uptown area. I’d heard about it before but never thought much about trying it because it wasn’t ever in our direct line of sight when we were in the area.

The One My Soul Loves

Photos all taken by the amazing Brittany at Brittany Martorella Photography

Love is full of clichés, and there's nothing wrong with that. He really does know me better than I know myself. He is my light, my best friend, my home. He gives me butterflies and drives me absolutely insane, sometimes at the same time.

I could prattle on forever with quotes from literature or movies about love and how profound it is. I could compare our love to that of the greats, the idols of romantic relationships, but none of that really seems accurate.

What I Wore: Sweater Weather

When the Georgia heat lets up its relentless reign over the south for a day or two, you rejoice and take advantage of it. The high yesterday was a cool 75 degrees, and that wasn't until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. That left most all day in the 50's and 60's. I gladly dredged a sweater out of the depths of my closet and leaped outside into the crisp air. (Can you tell I love fall?)
